A petty argument between two college roommates has exploded into an online battle played out in front of thousands after one of their tweets went viral.
The argument appears to have started after Jessica Taylor, a student at Pennsylvania State University, discovered that her roommate, named only as Nikki, had been making cruel comments about her online.
Jessica then decided to print out the ‘subtweets’ – negative posts that make reference to a particular person without directly naming them – which she displayed on their bedroom wall and took a picture of them which she shared on Twitter.
Retribution: A petty argument between two college roommates has exploded into an online battle played out in front of thousands after one of their tweets, pictured, went viral
Hurt: Jessica Taylor, pictured, fell out with her college roommate, known only as Nikki, after she discovered she was tweeting cruel comments about her
Angry: In response, she printed the comments, pictured, pinned them to their bedroom wall, took a photograph and tweeted it
Fan club: Her tweet got the attention of thousands of people online and was liked more than 160,000 times
The picture – which contains comments such as ‘my roommate situation is a horror story’ and ‘two weeks down and I already hate my roommate’ – has been liked more than 160,000 times.
Nikki, who Jessica claims is currently sleeping in a different room following the fall out, tweeted that her roommate had ‘hooping cough’ and that she was ‘allergic’ to her.
Explaining the image, Jessica wrote: ‘Today I found all the subtweets my roommate has made about me, so I printed them out and hung them up in our dorm’.
She got a message from her resident adviser, which she also shared online, asking her to ‘stay neutral’ until they were all able to discuss the issue.
She also shared an image of what appears to be a text message conversation between the pair in which Jessica accused her roommate of calling the police over claims she smoked cannabis.
Nikki wrote: ‘Yeah I shouldn’t have tweeted that but I did so that’s that but this is going to be real uncomfortable if you keep feeding me fire.
Details: She then continued to post a running commentary of their dispute – including text messages between them, pictured
Multi-faceted: The row involved cannabis, drinking, accusations of harassment and a police visit
Student life: Jessica claimed that she has seen Nikki drinking in their room, while other Twitter users shared images that allegedly show her drinking, pictured
‘You shouldn’t have had weed in the room so stop coming at me for being a b***h. I’m a b***h I know but I’m not doing anything illegal in our room.’
Jessica replied: ‘Apparently texting is petty to you, but subtweeting me a total of six times isn’t?
‘May I remind you I didn’t do s**t to you and you declared you hated me two weeks in.
‘I can have whatever I want on my side of the room and that is my risk and my problem, not yours because it doesn’t affect you in any way.’
When Jessica suggested that Nikki should have spoken to her about it instead of contacting police, she replied: ‘I live there and don’t want to smell weed when I come home from class.
Response: When Jessica found that her printouts had been ripped down she took pictures of the scene, tweeted them and claimed her roommate was ‘mad’
Drama: Jessica, pictured, said there were students waiting outside her door
‘I didn’t call the police so stop saying that. Weed is illegal don’t have it in the room again or I will tell the RA [Resident Adviser] again.
‘It’s up to them what to do from there and if they call the cops that’s not my prob [sic].
‘Nor do I care because I don’t smoke and don’t want to be associated with it anymore.’
In another tweet, Jessica claimed that her roommate ‘reported me for harassment’ and in another shared a photograph of a policeman in their room.
She claimed students were ‘waiting for me and talking about me’ outside her room and posted a video of the scenes outside her door.
Personality clash: She claimed on Twitter, pictured, that her roommate does not like her ‘because I smoke and I’m not rly organized [sic]’
Gossip: She posted a video of fellow students ‘waiting for me and talking about me’
Talking point: Jessica appears to have accumulated new friends as a result of the feud on Twitter who have been keenly following her updates
Unprovoked: She claims she has been ‘nothing but nice’ to Nikki
Allegations: She claimed her roommate drinks in their room
‘To the people i can hear snickering who are on my floor outside: I can hear you lmao [laughing my a** off] [sic],’ she wrote.
She claimed that Nikki drinks in their room but that she does not report it, while other Twitter users posted images that allegedly show her drinking.
Jessica said that her roommate has a vendetta against her ‘because I smoke and I’m not organized like she is.’
She added: ‘It’s just terrible living with her bc [because] she treats me like s**t when I’ve been nothing but nice to her [sic].’
While her relationship with her roommate is not looking positive, Jessica appears to have accumulated new friends as a result of the feud on Twitter.
Roger Sherman, from Brooklyn, wrote: ‘Hooked on the saga of @jessyjeanie, the Penn State student who printed out all her roommate’s subtweets and hung them on their dorm wall’.
Jessica appeared to be capitalizing on the publicity, inviting her new Twitter fans to follow her on Instagram.
